Grief Camps for Children

Camps for Adults

There are amazing, caring places for grieving children to go and learn and grow and, yes, have some much-needed FUN!  It is empowering to be surrounded by other kids who truly understand what it is like to lose a loved one.  It can be comforting to be around adults who know the things you need to hear and do.  Let's face it, as the adults in grieving children's lives, we often struggle because we ourselves are trying to figure out our own grief journey at the same time as our kids.  Camp can be a positive stepping stone in your grief journey.

  • But, do your research first, before you bring the idea up to your child.  Camp can mean different things to different children (freedom and fun, or, separation and the unknown).
  • Get the facts yourself first, read the information on how to bring the subject up with your child (many of the camps' websites give you help on this topic), and make the decision that is right for your family.

Yes, believe it or not, there is a camp for grieving adults too!  Camp Widow® is a unique and incredible experience. Over a weekend, this program provides both practical tools and relevant resources for widowed persons rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of the death of a spouse or partner.

But the most important thing that Camp Widow® provides to the widowed people who attend is an in-person community of others who are making their way through widowhood one day at a time. Campers come from all over the country, and around the world, to meet other widowed men and women face-to-face, and to experience the camaraderie that this event creates.

You might imagine these gatherings are morose, but you will find that the truth is quite the contrary. Among peers, lifted up by understanding, and validated in the uniqueness of every person’s grief recovery…the mood at Camp Widow® is hopeful, positive, and uplifting. Camp Widow® is a life changing experience for widowed men and women.
