6th Grade Commencement Speech

My Spiritual Journey
In sixth grade, I sometimes felt that God wasn’t with there when I needed him. I sometimes felt he had abandoned me, but in Joshua 1:9 it says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse kept me determined and faithful that God is always there and always listening.
The first spiritual attitude that I have grown in is my determination. Everyone gets attacks from Satan now and again. With help from God, he has made me so determined in Him to be defeated by Satan. This year I had many attacks from Satan. He would whisper in my ear that I wasn’t good enough or I couldn’t do anything right. God helped me push this voice out of my head and replaced it with a voice of encouragement. I am determined that he will protect me from Satan.
The second spiritual attitude that I have grown in is my faith. My little sister, Isabelle, passed away when she was one. Since then, I have wondered and questioned God. Why would he want to make our family so unhappy? What did we do to deserve this? This year, a big section of our Bible lesson was about how God does everything for a purpose. This made me realize that God took Isabelle away from us for a reason, and although we don’t know what the reason is, I have faith in God that he will show the reason to us when the time is right.
The third spiritual attitude that I have grown in is love. I have always known that in Exodus 20:6 says, “But showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandment.” I never truly understand what it meant. With help from God, I have realized what this verse means. It means that I can show how much God loves me to others by loving them. I know God loves me more than I can imagine, so I must show that love to others.
I have learned and grown in so many spiritual attitudes this year, but love, determination, and faith are my strongest. There were many challenges this year I couldn’t face without God. Sixth grade was an amazing year that helped me understand that God is always there even if it seems like He is not. I loved sixth grade and I am hoping these spiritual attitudes will help me be successful in junior high and later on in my life.
